<Alex_Dianthys> The young partisan had been preparing for this night for months. He had every patrol, every movement of the enemy memorized. Those that were willing to help were in their positions. Alex had spent the last week clearing the tracks of the rest.

<Alex_Dianthys> Dianthys himself is near the center of town, keeping an eye on the approaches to the charges while playing the role of yet another drunk factory worker coming out of the post-third-shift bars. The charges are set and counting down silently. There is no turning back now.

* Lanva` and the good doctor Rhen are just leaving the infirmary, hand in hand. She huddles closer to him as they move through the cold night hair, heading in the direction of the pub...
<Calanthar> Devregon, for his part, has left the Frost Watch compound after realizing that he was an inch away from punching the next person to even speak to him. Currently, he's making his way down the road, wandering aimlessly to try and clear his head. His cloak, the tattered symbol of everything that is the old man, is pulled tight against the wind, and he'll pause, looking up to the sky. It doesn't look like rain just yet, but it's certainly getting clo
<Calanthar> just yet, but it's certainly getting cloudy.
<PlotnessMonster> It's a fairly quiet evening. While it's cold, it's not nearly so terrible without the biting winds that often plague the town. There's only a light breeze, not even enough to stir the flakes that are settled on the rooftops. The quiet doesn't last. A loud explosion shatters the air, the sound echoing through the city as a bright light flares near the council hall in the center of Sinari. Flames fly up, the hall that the Our
<PlotnessMonster> the hall that the Ourani have taken over as their base of operations within the city aflame.
* Corwin wanders up within Alex's vicinity, hunched over and covered with a tattered wool cloak that he has pulled tightly around him. He makes occasional mutterings that would make the occasional passerby question his sanity and leave him alone; a harmless old crazy. The facade drops as soon as the explosion goes off. A slow smirk spreads across his face in the glow of the firestorm. "Showtime."
* Alex_Dianthys also becomes alert with the resounding thunder of the blast. Glass litters the streets from the windows knocked out by the shockwave. "Go. Stop for nothing." With that simple order, Alex hurries into the street and makes for the alleys on the other side. While he might appear to be holding his arms for warmth, Alex actually has his hands on the blade hilts hidden in his cloak.
<Calanthar> For a moment, Calanthar is just left gaping - no sound coming out, despite the fact that he's mouthing words. It seems that there's nothing to accurately describe his thoughts, so at long last he'll settle on the simple "Fuck!" He's taking off then, running as fast as an old soldier can - it's only after a few moments that he realizes that his sabre is out and in his hands - people are fleeing past him, but there's something about a Frost Wat

* Lanva` flinches, clinging to Rhen's arm for just a breif moment, not sure of what just happened and only aware of the blast and the light. This is one of those few times she was glad to be on patrol earlier. It meant she was still armed. She watches at the captain passes them. She turns to Rhen. "Stay here, ok?" The last thing she wanted was for him to be hurt. She, on the other hand, had a
<Lanva`> duty to investigate even if she was off duty... and even if it was the Ourani base. She quickly followed after Calanthar and when he came to a stop, she moved up beside him, hand on her swordhilt. "What the hell...?"

<Rhen> "Dammit!" He's tempted to chase after her... Paralyzed for a moment by indecision, Lanva disappears, and Rhen will turn and make for the infirmary, a growl of frustration. He'll run inside and tell the nurse on duty to set up for what he can only guess has been a catastrophe, and will hurry to clear space. After that's taken care of, he'll grab a satchel and load it with supplies - once the Galens get here, he'll be moving out to the scene.
<Rhen> be moving out to the scene.
<PlotnessMonster> The last time there was an explosion of this magnitude, a fireship ignited on the harbor. Ourani and Watch alike scramble for the location. This is too loud and too big to be a routine house burning. Two nimodo are staggering away from the wrecked building, one supporting the other and both have cloaks that are smoldering. They were the door sentries.
* Corwin lets his hands drift to his sides where his short swords are sitting, hidden beneath the billows of his wool cloak, as he follows Alex. His eyes are alert, watching for anyone, anything that would impede them.
<PlotnessMonster> Several black-clad soldiers run into the disaster area, a human and three more nimodo. Likely these soldiers just hustled from the gate. One nimodo starts shouting orders, directing the human to help the two injured, one soldier to try to get in and rescue people, and the last to search for any that might be responsible. One of them shouts at Corwin and Alex, "You there! Stop!" And rushes towards them. Another starts ye
<PlotnessMonster> them. Another starts yelling at some other people in the street, trying to herd them together.
<Calanthar> The voice grabs Calanthar's attention - its owner *should* be in for a few choice words, but this is a different situation, and Rahdrey's bitching has been thrown aside. "Keep sharp - wounded are the first priority right now, but don't drop your guard. We don't know what caused that, if there will be more like it, or much of anything. Stay close, and try to keep up." 'Try to keep up' says the old man to the young woman. Still, he's moving a
<Calanthar> the young woman. Still, he's moving at an impressive pace.
* Alex_Dianthys is makes a break for the alleys behind Herdis and Hisder. If they must fight, he'd rather be on their own terms and out of sight. The pop of crude home-made pistols can be heard echoing on the road as others take advantage of the chaos to snipe at Ourani soldiers in the streets from windows and rooftops.
* Lanva` simply nods. No room for arguement, questioning, or anything else. No need for it. She draws her sword, easily keeping pace witht he older captain. Green eyes scan the area, looking up at the civilians who have opened fire. She hopes they're not after the watch as well. Or at least decent enough shots to not hit an officer.
* Corwin glances back at the soldier that yells at him and Alex, drawing his swords from their sheaths. Ourani soldier. Well, if the man decides to stick his nose where it doesn't belong it wasn't his fault if he lost it. "We've got company. Keep going Alex." Corwin will fall back about two or three strides, prepared to turn around and take out the soldier should he catch up.
* Bryce (pauline@dm-1523.dhcp.mrqt.mi.charter.com) has joined #Sinari_Town
<PlotnessMonster> The nimodo, Mizna, chases after Dianthys and Corwin, drawing a long bastard sword. Alex breaks for the alley and Mizna will race after, moving fast as he pushes for speed with a racial strength the nimodo believe granted from Osurak. The soldier that went into the building returns, hauling out another nimodo, this one with dark red scales and badly burned, one of the captains of the army by the name of Frithla. The officer
<PlotnessMonster> Frithla. The officer shouting orders gives a cry and falls to the ground as he takes a pistol shot.
* Bryce rushes to the scene, on patrol this evening, as usual. As he approaches the hostile area he slows his pace, moving in under the cover of buildings where he can. He was shot once, and has a healthy respect for guns now. When he gets near enough to recognize Captain Devregon, he picks up speed again and hurries towards Calanthar, "Captain!"
<Calanthar> Larose is right on time, Calanthar pausing to take a look around. There are soldiers running all about, disjointed and trying to do what they can. "Larose - get to work directing the rescuers. Get them looking after the injured. Versai!" He'll call out sharply, pointing to an alleyway on the left, devoid of gunfire, that runs back alongside the council hall - flaming debris is settled around it, but there seems to be a clear path. "Chec
<Calanthar> there seems to be a clear path. "Check that out! Report back immediately - if you can't find a group to link up with, come back to me." Then, just as abruptly, he'll turn and seize one of the soldiers running past, shouting a few orders in his face and sending him scurrying off. Someone's got to get some organization around here...
* Alex_Dianthys times his run to the alley such that Corwin will be able to intercept the nimodo right as they get to the buildings, thus separating the Ourani from his fellows. He brandishes his fighting knives as soon as shadow touches the cloak.
* Corwin see the opening and takes it. Leaping into the Nimodo's path, he swipes at the lizard with his blades, aiming a slash towards the creature's face. "Not gonna be that easy, Ourani Lizard."
* Lanva` turns and darts from the captain, sprinting for the alleyway, trying to avoid any stray bullets. That would be bad. Heavy footfalls carry her further down the alley, hoping it's nothing, but with her luck it's probably something bigger than she can handle on her own...
<Bryce> Direct the rescuers? The young man looks around at the chaos, bewildered for a moment, then heads towards the nearest of the injured. He can do triage to start. "I am a doctor.. let me see." He states, hoping the Ourani will listen instead of chase him away. He can't do any healing, thanks to Mendricks stupid decree, but he can at least help determine which need to get to the infirmary immediately and which can wait.
<Bryce> can wait.
<PlotnessMonster> Mizna suddenly finds himself between two hostile individuals. Corwin cuts him off on one side while Alex doubles back to flank him. Mizna swings the hefty bastard sword at Corwin, an attack intended to cut the man down fast and hard. Lanva heads into the alley to find an Ourani man standing over one of the assailants, a short sword freshly blooded hanging from his hand as he breathes heavily while staring down at the corpse
<PlotnessMonster> staring down at the corpse. His free hand is pressed against his side. He looks up slowly at Lanva, malice in his gaze. "Another come to fight me?"
* Alex_Dianthys takes advantage of Mizna showing him its back and slashes at the nimodo's neck with the right blade, while jabbing at the kidney with the left. His goal is to either nick the nimodo's spine, pierce internal organs, or both... either way, immobilizing pain is Alex's goal.
<Lanva`> ... Shit. She has no idea what to make of this scene. "I'm with the Watch..." Though she really has no idea what side this man is on and she isn't about to let her guard down. "What happened here...?"
* Calanthar is shouting orders, directing the various soldiers in their rescue efforts and setting up a cordon around the area. The snipers don't seem to be picking at him, a bit of a blessing in all the chaos. Before long, the Ourani will likely regroup, however, and storm the houses. For now, Devregon is just trying to keep them focused on rescuing the injured.
* Corwin dodges the Nimodo's attack....barely. The sword bites into his shoulder before Corwin can get out of the way, rolling onto the ground into a defensive stance, hoping to keep the lizard's attention on him while Alex flanks him.
<PlotnessMonster> Mizna twists sharply to face Alex next, barely avoiding the slash at his neck. The strike for his kidney doesn't pucture deep enough, but opens an unhealthy gash (that could very well be lethal) from his turning movement. He thrusts the sword at Dianthys, growling. "Osurak will cook you in his fires!" The man that Lanva encountered glares at her, "Back off! Sheath your weapon!" Obviously this Ourani man isn't entire
<PlotnessMonster> Ourani man isn't entirely convinced that the Watch is on his side. He waves his hand at her to ward her away, his flesh dark red from blood.
* Alex_Dianthys takes advantage of his superior agility to use the left blade as a parry against the sword as he turns his body parallel to the thrust. Alex simultaneously brings the right blade back down in a high slash at the nimodo's face.
<Bryce> Another gunshot splinters the air, and the man standing over the healer gasps and staggers a step, then falls to the ground. Bryce jumps in alarm, looking away from the burned nimodo to see the shot Ourani hit the snow. Then he lifts his eyes to the rooftops above them, clearly nervous now. He really doesn't want to get shot for helping the 'enemy'. He tries to seek out the captain, hoping to glean some visual gesture or order from t
<Bryce> gesture or order from the man.
<Lanva`> "Not until I know what happened..." She glances down the alley, fairly certain she can hear voices, angry ones. But she's not sure if this man has just killed an innocent or if he was defending himself. If it were the former, she couldn't let him get away.
<Calanthar> That shot was too close to hitting Frost Watch... These people are getting carried away now. "Head down, Larose! Get to cover! Rescuers, start moving the wounded that you can out of the line of fire!" It's a damn *square* of course, making that plenty harder... "Set up barriers - just don't get your heads taken off!" Another bullet zings by, sinking into the snow between the Captain and an Ourani officer relaying orders, making it even

<Calanthar> officer relaying orders, making it even harder to tell if there's *any* aiming anymore.
<PlotnessMonster> Mizna was expecting some crude civilians with cheap swords, not two experienced fighters. Alex deflects his thrust and the nimodo barely avoids getting a second mouth cut for him. That thought only lasts a moment because Corwin's stab digs deeply into his spine. Mizna spasms once, screeching in pain, and then collapses to the slush. Lanva gets no response. The Ourani man presses his hand to his side again, his face blanchin
<PlotnessMonster> again, his face blanching from the pain. He leans against the wall of the alley, gasping heavily. In his right hand the sword is still held tightly. The recently slain man lays facedown in the snow, a dagger clenched in one fist.
* Lanva` curses under her breath. No time to think about it now. She sheaths her sword, moving forward to offer the man a helping arm. "C'mon... I'll get you to the infirmary..." Not that she trusts the guy, but Ourani or not he's injured and she can't just leave him.
* Alex_Dianthys takes off down the alley with the nimodo successfully dispatched. He takes point as they work their way through the spaces behind the infirmary. If they can break past that corner, he and Corwin should be able to approach the airfield using the building on the road leading to it for cover.
<PlotnessMonster> "Stay back!" He screams, and in a sudden flash of movement the Ourani stabs the short sword at Lanva, rage on his face.
* Bryce grabs ahold of the burned nimodo and drags him back towards the nearest stoop, the building across the street from the burning council hall. He stays in cover for a moment, then darts back out to help the Ourani that was just shot. When they're both in what he hopes is relative safety, he'll do his best to staunch the bleeding of the latter, trying to ignore the fighting and shots fired around him.
* Lanva` gasps, a hiss of pain as the blade bites into her flesh. She managed to at least sidestep enough to avoid a full-on gutting, but the blade still cut into her side. She steps back, giving the Ourani a shove as she does. On a quick movement her sword is drawn one-handed, the other pressed firmly against the wound to stop the bleeding.
<Calanthar> Calanthar is either mad or oblivious to the bullets - he's still out there, directing the last of the rescuers, sabre in hand. Once the last line of soldiers starts to fall back, so does he, taking now to duck and cover his head as the snipers continue trying to pick off anyone they can before everyone is under cover. He'll note when he gets a chance to catch his breath that Lanva hasn't come back yet - hopefully she's linked up with someone by no
<Calanthar> hopefully she's linked up with someone by now, but until the snipers stop, it would be hard to get to where she last was.

<PlotnessMonster> Some Ourani are making it onto the rooftops now, and there are small pockets of fighting all over. Some of the Ourani are listening to Calanthar, following his orders since their own chain of command has been cut down. Others ignore him, not listening to any but their own. The people shooting are switching to crossbows, gunpowder rather limited. There's a loud groaning sound as the roof of the council hall slowly weakens, t
<PlotnessMonster> hall slowly weakens, the supports weakening as the fire spreads. The man attacking Lanva is already offbalance from his own attack and when she shoves him he careens wildly and slips on some ice, hitting the ground hard. The impact jars him badly and he lays stunned for a moment.
* Lanva` takes a moment to get her own balance, momentarily frazzled. She kicked the sword from the man's hand, leveling her own just under his chin. "I -was- going to help you to the infirmary... but now you can kiss my ass." She takes a few steps back in case he comes up swinging. She takes the short moment of quiet to gently lift her hand from the wound, finding it to not be nearly as bad as
<Lanva`> she'd though. But it still hurt like a bitch. She glanced towards the square and the chaos there. Trying to meet back with the captain now would likely result in her getting shot. Or worse. And she was sure she heard voices further down the alley...
* Alex_Dianthys and Corwin are fortunate that the explosion and ensuing partisan attack has drawn the vast majority of Ourani attention. They slip past the infirmary and down the road to the airfield. Once the airships are in sight, Alex points out their target to Corwin - a small courier. "Take down anyone who gets in our way. Cover me while I start the engines, then get your ass on-board." With just a moment to catch breath, they then
<Alex_Dianthys> - they then sprint on.
* Bryce gets the shot fellow crudely bandaged, knowing that him and the burned Frithla both need to get to the infirmary fast. He'll flag down a nimodo, doing his best to sound authoritative, "They mahst go to the infirmary. Now. They -will- die if you do not take them." There's no way Bryce could carry either of the wounded far, he's too much a feathweight. Besides, there are more injured to see to here.
<PlotnessMonster> The Ourani man in the alley with Lanva struggles to crawl for his sword, giving a choked cry of pain and doubling over halfway there. Versai could go back out into the square in front of the council hall, but crossbow bolts are still flying and keeping the Ourani and Watch alike deadlocked under cover. The soldier Bryce flagged down gathers a few others and they lift the wounded to carry towards the infirmary.
<PlotnessMonster> infirmary.
<Alex_Dianthys> As Alex and Corwyn approach the courier ship, the crew can be seen huddling near the engines for warmth. Silently, Alex motions for Corwyn to take out the two nearest the hatch. In the meantime, the remaining crossbow snipers take shots at nimodo carrying wounded, especially those with markings suggesting rank.
* Lanva` glances back at the fallen Ourani, little sympathy for someone who tried to kill her. She stumbles a little on her first step, more blood lost than she thought, but it's not bad enough to stop for. She thinks. She heads further down the alleyway, seeking the voices she heard earlier...
* Bryce moves on to another hurt man, leaving the nimodo to see to their own. He had thought the location he chose was safe, but as soon as he's out of range, several crossbow bolts bury into those lifting the wounded. They cry out in pain, and the healer whips around, staring. He's not sure if his timing was lucky, or his white uniform is granting him sanctuary from the assault. He eases back, pressing against a wall and trying to sor
<Bryce> wall and trying to sort out some order in the chaos. Calanthar is still standing.. a few other Watch men.. nimodo in particular are being attacked all over the place.
* Corwin nods and whispers. "You got it boss." Corwin moves quickly, letting his cloak hide any defining features and blend him into the shadows. His swords flash silently, opening one guard's throat and splitting the stomach of the other, allowing Alex some breathing room
<PlotnessMonster> Lanva heads deeper into the alley, and as she reaches the opposite end she sees several Ourani helping to quickly heft a small group of soldiers up to a roof of a neighboring building. Likely they're a unit trying to take out some of the snipers. With them is a mage, only identifiable as such by his lack of armor and rank insignia.
<Calanthar> The casualties are only rising as the angry rebels pick off more and more targets - wounded or not, they seem to be fair game. One has to wonder how many Ourani will be left by the time those few groups get onto the roofs to assault the snipers. Calanthar's still under cover, shouting out orders and trying to get a decent defensive setup. There's no mention of a counterattack coming from him, but the wounded and those tending them don't seem to m
<Calanthar> and those tending them don't seem to mind too much.
* Alex_Dianthys moves as one with Corwin and rushes up to the hatch. There are four crew by the engines, thus leaving two inside. He pulls the hatch open, telling Corwin to run the rest off the crew off. Alex then stalks to the small bridge, where he makes short work of the very surprised first mate, who was going to see what the noise at the hatch was.
* Lanva` curses under her breath some more. She would love nothing more than to stop them. But she's one person, one wounded person, and there's not a thing she could do to help... Right? Well... She stayed behind the corners of the wall, peeking around at the Ourani. From her pocket she drew a signal whistle. It was a long shot... but she blew the whistle, hard and loud, hoping those civilians on
<Lanva`> the roof would hear and maybe, somehow, realize the Ourani were on their way up to slaughter them. Or maybe to at least distract the Ourani... Granted, she hadn't thought the plan that much through... Heh...
* Corwin makes short work of the rest of the crew. He is wounded, his arm hurt and was bleeding, but he didn't seem to notice. Several of the crew resist, and for that he is given several new scars that are bleeding through his cloak. Said crew that resisted made a shining example of why Corwin prided himself as one of the fastest blade fighters in Sinari. Not many fought too long after he took on the self imposed resistors.
<Alex_Dianthys> Lanva can see several of Alex's men lowering ropes from the other side of the building the Ourani are scaling. Upon hearing the whistle, they pick up the pace and try to get to the ground before the Ourani catch up.
<PlotnessMonster> The groaning from the council hall grows louder, and then a large crack resounds through the fighting, and in a great upward shower of sparks and ash the heavy roof collapses in on the building. If there was anyone trapped alive in there, they won't be making it out. More Ourani are mustering to the scene now, reinforcing those that are entrenched under cover as they begin forming an outer perimeter to close in on the squar
<PlotnessMonster> close in on the square. Word hasn't traveled that there's more fighting at the airfield yet.
* Alex_Dianthys shoves the first mate's body back through the door to the bridge, catching the aging captain off-guard. "If you value your life, leave. NOW." The captain is used to being pushed around by military men, so he wastes no time in escaping the ship. Corwin's efforts are rewarded by the sound of the props starting up.
<Calanthar> Lanva's whistle attracts attention, alright - the Ourani mage, preparing to cast a spell, suddenly turns to look at her, eyes wide. "What in the hell are you doing?! Are you *helping* them?!" A couple of the soldiers move to put themselves between the mage and the woman as the mage raises his staff, calling to mind the words of a spell in case it's needed. "Who are you? What are you doing?!" They're obviously frantic and confused, not
<Calanthar> They're obviously frantic and confused, not wanting a bolt through the chest.
* Corwin grins wolfishly as he hears the airship engines coming to life. He shoves the captain off the ship with a grand flourish to sprawl on the ground with the rest of his surviving crew and gives them a mocking salute. "Happy trails, Ourani Bastards."
<Alex_Dianthys> Alex's men carefully finish scaling and whip around the corner, their crossbows raised in a tactical fashion. The mage, in particular, and the soldiers approaching the woman are targeted with the volley. Their desire to not be pegged is not shared by the soldiers.
* Alex_Dianthys calls out from the bridge to the open hatch, "We have to make the rendezvous point before the Ourani can muster a response! Let's go!" He throttles the engines and prepares the airship to take off as soon as Corwin is on board.
* Lanva` breaths a sigh of releif when she sees the men fleeing... It's very likely she helped the enemy, but at least they didn't lose their lives to the Ourani... Which were now glaring down upon her. She hadn't been thinking too clearly when she blew the whistle. She was sure she was dead... but there were Alex's men, like cavalry to the rescue. She could exhale that breath she hadn't realized
<Lanva`> she'd been holding.
<Corwin> Done with his short bout of mocking and lapse in better warrior's judgement, Corwin hops back aboard, the smile of victory playing on his features, despite the small deposits of blood and gashes on him.
* Bryce stays back, wanting to aid those that are hurt, but there's simply too much risk now for him to run out there. If he gets himself shot he's of little use to anyone. The healer watches helplessly as another man is shot by an arrow, then calls out quickly to an Ourani medic nearby that runs to aid him, "No! They attack! Wait fahr help!"
<Calanthar> The mage, already on his toes, will speak the spell as quickly as he can - several bolts zipping at him seem to break on the air in front of him and fall. Of the other soldiers, only one remains miraculously unscathed, likely because he was in the back. One of the men takes three precisely-aimed bolts to the stomach, another shudders sharply six or seven times and collapses in a heap, and the last, with a sharp jerk, falls backwards, neck bent, a
<Calanthar> sharp jerk, falls backwards, neck bent, a crossbow bolt cleanly in the centre of his forehead, staring up at Lanva with dead eyes. The remaining three seem to forget about the wounded woman, the mage and the uninjured soldier trying to fend off the attackers. The wounded man, his face a mask of pain and tears, is doing everything he can to keep his organs inside his body.
* Alex_Dianthys gives the rotors full power and the airship lifts away from the ground. Alex immediately drives for altitude, to put the airship out of easy range of Ourani mages and heads east towards the forest.
<PlotnessMonster> The Ourani are starting to arrive in more solid force, units roused and armed arrive. The offense is strong, and -any- resistance is met with cold, Ourani violence. An elite group of nimodo begin prowling through the alleys, and any attacker that's caught by that unit is cut brutally to shreds by nimodo claws. These are not the draftees that were on guard or patrol duties. This unit is trained careerists.
<Alex_Dianthys> The force of six men close in on the surviving Ourani, three discarding their crossbows in favor of short swords while the other three reload. One calls out, Run, Miss! They won't come after you by the time we're finished!"
<Alex_Dianthys> Another group of six of Alex's men are fated to clash with the elite nimodo as they try to make their way east through the alleys. Upon seeing their brutality, Team B fires off every crossbow they have. As the nimodo charge to close range, the second team will switch to swords to meet them!

<Calanthar> It doesn't take them long - valiant though the stand might be, the mage needs time to cast, and with a swarm of attackers, he doesn't have it. The men with swords advance, one keeping the uninjured guard, a younger recruit, at bay while the other two set upon the mage. They're quick and efficient, a blade through the throat to silence him, and a nice clean cut down the middle for good measure. While they surround the other soldier to finish him o
<Calanthar> surround the other soldier to finish him off, a crossbowman advances towards the horribly injured guard, trying to move away. He looks at the fleeing woman for a moment, yelling "You bi-" and is silenced, a bolt piercing the back of his head at point blank range.
<Alex_Dianthys> With the damsel no longer in distress, Team A returns to the alleys to make their way to the egress point. The last team of six men, C, also snuck through the alleyways towards their escape. Perhaps the sacrifice of Team B, engaged in a bloody and losing battle with the elite nimodo, enabled this.
<PlotnessMonster> The trained elite soldiers rush the resisting Ashetai people with practiced teamwork. Two take bolt wounds, but hardly slow. They're wearing chain under their winter cloaks and the bolts don't bury deep. Sharp claws slash, cut, and puncture, mercilessly opening bowels, gauging faces, or raking backs. They move fast and unpredictably, at least to anyone outside of their unit. All their manuevers are practiced and efficient.
<PlotnessMonster> practiced and efficient.
<Alex_Dianthys> As the airship under Alex's command moves towards the forest, Ourani guards on top of Ryn'an's home - turned into a makeshift watch post for the occupiers - began taking pot shots at the hatch. "Corwin, I hope you're a better shot than they are! We can't let them send out a runner to give away our position!"
* Bryce spots Lanva, the blood obvious against the white Watch uniform. She's a good friend in the Watch, and the ranged attacks seem to be slacking off as some of the people begin pulling out of the area. He calls out to her, "Lanva.. stay. I will come to you." And then the healer is quickly making his way around the square to try and get to her, wary of any fighting or projectiles.
<Calanthar> The Captain, for his part, has taken the slackening in fire to look to the wounded. When Larose runs by, he'll be sitting, back against an overturned cart, sharing a cigarette with a young Ourani soldier with a gaping wound in his chest. "Now that there - that's a character wound. You get one of those and keep going, people aren't gonna be taking you for a wuss." It's odd to see the man talking with the young officer, especially given his pa
<Calanthar> young officer, especially given his particular... Comments on the Ourani, but he'll nod to Bryce as the healer runs by. "Don't get yourself killed out there, Larose - they may be slacking now, but be careful."
<Corwin> "Only one way to find out." Pulling his pistol from its holster on the back of his belt, Corwin will take aim and start returning the fire, taking aim at the spotter. Take out their eyes, and their guns become next to useless.
* Bryce gives a quick "Yessahr.." as he passes, hurrying on to the next point of cover. When he reaches Lanva, he'll try to pull her back into the safety of the alley, urging her to sit down. The ice is cold, but she'll conserve strength if she's in a more resting position. "Lanvah, you will be okay, jahst rest." He says, his voice reassuring as he tries to brush her hand away from the bleeding wound so that he might assess the
<Bryce> he might assess the damage.
<Alex_Dianthys> The poor spotter took the shot square in the chest and fell back onto the roof. The riflemen press on, despite losing their best strength.
<Alex_Dianthys> One of the two crossbow bolts thuds into the deck just inches away from Corwin's foot. The other flies past his head and embeds in the wall behind him.
<Corwin> Still taking the heat, Corwin will toss his expended pistol aside and grab for the light crossbow that was strapped under his cloak across his back. He likes the pistol, but he wasn't made of money. He takes careful aim, and fires. The bolt hits one of the snipers enough to take him out of the equation just as the crossbolts whiz by his head. He decides that its better if he reloads his crossbow while taking cover.
* Lanva` complies, moving to a sitting/leaning on the wall position. The would is deep, but not deep enough to hit any vital organs. It's just bleeding a lot. She's already started to turn just a little pale from the blood loss, closing her eyes as she rests her head against the wall. She wanted to sleep.
<Alex_Dianthys> The targeted roof shooter is hit square in the shoulder, shattering his arm socket and causing him to lose his footing on the roof. The second sniper looks on in horror as his crossbow misfires and the bowstring breaks.
<Bryce> "Stay awake." He says in a demanding voice, pulling off his cloak and then his outer shirt. It's the cleanest, mostly protected from the elements and not soiled with his sweat. He tears several strips of cloth and moves to wrap them tightly around her midsection. "It is not too deep. You will be fine. You need stitches.. that is all."
<Lanva`> "Mkay..." Her eyes opened for a moment, before they slowly started to close again. Cold mixed with sudden burst of adrenaline mixed with the tiredness from a full patrol earlier that day wasn't doing much to help her stay awake... Sleep sounded so very inviting....
* Bryce will bind her up, then he pulls his cloak back on. "Okay, I will carry you.. jahst tell me if you hurt too mahch." His accent always worsens when he's forced to speak quickly, which attests to the mental effort he puts into pronouncing words correctly. Larose leans down and hefts her up, able to at least bear -her- weight. He'll begin heading back towards the square, thinking to get her back towards Calanthar and the safer
<Bryce> Calanthar and the safer wounded. Here in the alley anyone could wander by.
* Corwin is now known as RozSleep
* Calanthar will lean back, blowing cigarette smoke into the sky and closing his eyes, when it hits him. Not inspiration, not enemy fire - just snow. Snow and the realization that aside from the falling flakes, the area is still. The only sounds now are the howl of the wind and the cries of those injured unfortunate enough to still be conscious. A few of the younger men are in a state of shock, including a number of the officers - it was quick, it was dead
<Calanthar> the officers - it was quick, it was deadly, and now it's still. With a slight grunt, the Captain will rise, straightening his cloak and looking down at the young man he'd shared a smoke with - he's alive, but for how long? "Alright. Let's get to it, then. Those who are still able, form up by squads - officers, rearrange as you need to. Carry the wounded to the infirmary or to the docks. I want 2 Frost Watch and Ourani squads tending to the dead
* UnaSleepBunny (Bifricate@dm-947.dhcp.mrqt.mi.charter.com) Quit (Ping timeout)
<Calanthar> "I want 2 Frost Watch and Ourani squads tending to the dead." A pause, another puff of smoke, and he'll speak again, more forcefully. "*Now*, dammit!" Some stare, some jump, but all rise, and slowly set about the heavy task before them. It will be some time until the numbers are known, and many men won't return to their beds for hours - the Captain himself, along with the squad of Seves Arktinos, only return to the barracks as dawn breaks.
<Calanthar> return to the barracks as dawn breaks.
<Alex_Dianthys> With the immediate threat dealt with and no sight of reinforcements, Alex takes the airship out over the Sinari eastern walls and into open territory. As the remaining team members make their own way out through the sewers, they leave the carnage behind and rally with their captain at the rendezvous point. Next stop: Ama'til.
* Lanva` winces softly as she's lifted, but makes no further protest as she's carried....
* Bryce will keep busy stabalizing people so that they can be moved safely. Lanva is passed off to other able Watch soldiers so that Larose can focus on medical work. At first he tries his best to care for people without his healing. But, the fact is that his education simply isn't strong enough, and as several Ourani fall into more critical states, Bryce finally caves and resorts to his healing to save them. He had sworn he wouldn't,
<Bryce> sworn he wouldn't, but he's never been strong enough to watch people die that he could save.. even if they are Ourani.
<Lanva`> It isn't long before Lanva is taken to the infirmary with all the other injured. She fighting to stay awake, though the thought of sleep is looking better and better by the second. She's deposited on one of the beds, the soldier that carried her rushing out to help more inside...
<Rhen> It will be a busy night at the infirmary - there's no doubting that. All the doctors are in attendance, and there's still a shortage of room, time, and supplies. Some won't make it through the night. Through it all, Doctor Miardrad manages to keep himself calm. Seeing Lanva come in, wounded like she is, jars the doctor for a moment, but he'll tend to her himself, giving her some strong tea to numb the pain and put her to sleep, and then patching her
<Rhen> her to sleep, and then patching her up with all care. The next morning, they'll find him fast asleep in a chair beside the Frost Watch soldier's bed, one hand resting on hers, and no one will bother waking him.
