* Sadurean had decided to let Daern stay in the house. It wasn't out of his kindness, but rather, Evi's. So they helped the man up to the guest room and got him settled as best they could. Then the kitchen was cleaned up while the bard fretted over what to do. He hadn't planned on staying the night in the house, but he wasn't willing to leave the thief alone and it's not like they had any reason *not* to stay. It is their house now, a
<Sadurean> their house now, after all. It's just.. weird. Come morning, the bard would be bringing a glass of water into the room, checking to see if he's still alive.
<Daern> stirring restlessly, Daern opens his eyes in a rush, grasping for his dagger that's not where it should be, realization setting in that he's not at home, he calms down and turns to look at Sadurean as he comes in. "you spooked me....but, I think, I think you may just have the makings of a medic about you....." he says as he's forcing himself to try to get set up without disturbing his bad arm.
<Sadurean> A medic? Hardly. Some children could have done a better job than the bard did. He moves to hand Daern the glass of water, studying him quietly, a troubled expression on his face. "Why were some men coming her to try and kill me? How did they know where this house was? How did you know they were planning it? I want answers."
<Daern> "answers you shall have....they were coming here because of the rumors about someone leaking the guild to the watch, it's common knowledge that you were an investigator in the watch, and they figured that you got kicked out as a ploy to get you out of anyone's suspicions. While I may not completely trust that you're not part of the watch, I'm not about to have you killed for it."
* Sadurean moves to pull a wooden chair from a corner, dragging it over near the bed and sitting down. "So, rather than ask me about it, they decided to just have me killed? That's .. That's just stupid." He stressed, so his tact is lacking this morning. "You think I'm still in the Watch? Do you honestly believe that?" There's a scowl on the boy's face now.

<Daern> "trust me boy, if I was convinced you were in the watch, I'd have let them have you. I caught wind of the plan through a couple of the guys talking about it over a drink...but, seeing as I had no idea where you were, I couldn't exactly send someone to you to warn you, so I followed them, they must have had someone tailing you to know where to find you."
<Daern> "as far as stupid.....they were drunk, and lets be honest, if you were an undercover watch member, would you admit it if they asked you? Like I said last night, I'm going to attempt to atone for my actions by offering my services to the watch, too much has gone wrong with this guild so far, and I'm not about to spend my life in a prison for someone else's stupidity or blabbering mouth."
* Sadurean nods, mulling this over for a few moments. "So you're completely done with the guild? I've been seriously considering severing ties with Mortimer myself. Well.. Now I'm definitely going to.. after what they've tried.. I'm just worried about what he might do if I tell him I'm done. I wish I knew what happened to Diego." Obviously the boy is worried about his own safety and Evi's.

<Daern> nodding in agreement "I told you last night, I came here to get away from the trouble I got myself into for trying to save Mortimer from the Commander of the Guard where I lived before, he took me under his wing and showed me a way to make a living, even though it never really felt right to me. What does one do when your life it torn apart, and you have nowhere to turn? <...>
<Daern> <...> I chose to side with the thieves guild there and pay the man back for some of the care he'd given me, though, perhaps I made a mistake in doing so." hanging his head in shame, he pauses for a moment before looking back to the bard "if we go to the watch, what kind of punishment is going to await me here? You know I've done little that's illegal here yet, can they be convinced to be lenient?"
<Calanthar> A loud knock at the door will interrupt the talks of the pair - more a pounding than a simple knocking. Devregon came in force, with Arktinos and his men sweeping the area and quietly moving to cover the doors, leaving Calanthar to move inside. He has a man flanking him on either side, both with hands on their weapons' hilts, standing a little ways off. This would mark the second time that the Captain has been to the Avinash house, the first to f
<Calanthar> been to the Avinash house, the first to find the dead Kaden; a mistake he's sure not to repeat, given the fact that the knocking grows louder with each minute.
* Sadurean stares at him, blue eyes weighing his words. "I'm not as trusting as Mortimer is. I don't know what they'll do. Don't expect me to testify on your behalf. I've had enough trouble with them, I don't need anymore. If they found out I was involved with any of this.." He trails off, shaking his head. "I don't see how you can expect to atone for one crime by comitting others." The pounding at a door downstairs startles h
<Sadurean> downstairs startles him, and he stands quickly. Daern is given a worried glance, and then the boy is out of the room and heading downstairs.
<Daern> grabs his clothing and re-dresses as quickly as possible, picking his dagger and sword up from their resting place in the corner, and laying them, sheathed, across the room from him and returning to sit on the chair that Sadurean had been seated on. Waiting patiently for what must be coming, suspecting that the watch had found a blood trail from the fight and came to investigate.

<Calanthar> The boy will let Calanthar in, not even bothering to ask him to put out his cigarette. Evi will understand, given the situation. There's the sound of metal sliding out from its sheath, and slow, cautious steps up the main staircase before the Captain and his two young comrades appear. Upon seeing the man sitting and the weapons across the room, Calanthar will motion for one of the pair to move and collect them while he moves over to the man, keep
<Calanthar> them while he moves over to the man, keeping a wary distance. The sword is replaced, but one hand remains on it. The Captain is old, grey haired, battle-scarred, with those pale blue eyes that now appear quite hard, but he still seems to be a capable warrior. "You are the man known as Daern." It's less of a question, more of a statement.
<Daern> "That I am sir, I'd bow or offer you a handshake but, I fear my current state leaves little room for formalities. I presume that you're a member of the watch, but, your name unfortunately I've not had the pleasure of learning, but, all the better, I had planned to come seek out a ranking individual within your ranks today for a discussion as soon as I was able to move about without as much pain."<...>
<Daern> <...> "it seems as if you've saved me the trouble of coming to you." having said this, Daern forces himself back to his feet, obviously in pain, but, standing to present his uninjured arm to the man before him.
* Calanthar will take the man's hand, if only for a moment, before dropping it and taking a drag off of his cigarette. "Sit down then, if you're injured. I'm Captain Devregon - Calanthar Devregon, and I must say that my business here is not as pleasant as you may hope. It's rather hard looking for information on a man with no last name, but if my reports are to believed, you are a native of Ignari with some outstanding warrants. I know not why, but I as
<Calanthar> outstanding warrants. I know not why, but I assure you, I've sent inquiries into the matter. As for *here*, I have a warrant for your arrest on several conspiracy counts. But you say you have something for me. Why don't we talk about that before we talk about my concerns?"
<Daern> "Thank you for your kindness, however, I've troubled this house long enough, after my injury last night, if your men might help me, would gladly leave, as I wish not to cause any ill speaking of these people for helping me in my moment of dire need. If it need be I would gladly accompany you to the Watch Headquarters"
<Calanthar> "Very well. If you can move of your own accord, these men will be glad to escort you to the Watch Compound for processing." He'll give a nod to the two men, taking the weapons from the one as they move over to help Daern rise, one pulling out a pair of handcuffs and moving to place them on the man while Calanthar supervises.
<Daern> looking at the Captain and then back at his arm that's splinted and slung then back to the captain "good sir, could perchance you forego the handcuffs, the arm's broken, and I'd not like to add additional pain to what walking is already going to cause. also, my weapons, please be kind to them, the sword was a gift from my grandfather, the dagger a reminder of what I want to avoid becoming."
<Calanthar> Against his better judgment, the Captain will wave the young man off. "We can get you a stretcher if walking is going to be too painful... It's a bit of a hitch from here to the compound." He's not going to be *cruel*, but he's not too keen on giving the man freedom to roam. One of the guards will grab Daern under the uninjured arm to support him while the Captain himself moves over to inspect his arm.
<Daern> "I assure you, I'll be no trouble, I've no wish to try to run, I regret some of my actions, and that's what I intended to come to you with. Perhaps we can talk on the way rather than a flat lock me up and then interrogate me, I'm not stupid, nor do I plan to try to deceive you." accepting the help of the guard he'll lean some of the weight for the guard to help carry, while allowing the captain easy access to the broken a

* Sadurean finally appears in the doorway to the room, watching the proceedings quietly from the shadows of the upstairs hallway. The house is just dark.. no lamps are lit and the windows still have those dark curtains blotting out a lot of the morning sunlight.
<Calanthar> "He's not lying. It's broken. O'tinkin, cuff his good arm to yours, if you would." The guard will move to attempt it while bracing Daern while the Captain regards him. "Yeah, we can talk. It'll all be on the record, but we can talk on the way." He'll then hand the weapons back over to the other soldier and he'll turn to the door and see the figure standing there. "You've done good, Sadurean. I just regret the danger you've been put in
<Calanthar> regret the danger you've been put in because of it. I doubt your wife will ever forgive me for this one... Guess that means no more cookies for me."
* Daern casts a look of appreciation towards Sadurean and quietly says "thank you for your help sir, I appreciate what you've done for me, yourself and your wife, I'll repay you in some way for the trouble I caused you if I'm able." looking back to the captain "I'm ready when you are Captain"
<Sadurean> "Sir.. Mortimer still has Diego, I think he may be dead. But.. if he sent men here to try and kill us, I don't think I should go back. Though.. Daern said they were drunk.. still, I don't see how Winterheart couldn't have been behind it. He seems to have no qualms with murdering people." He gives Daern a funny look, confused as to why the man is thanking him. Does he not realize what's going on?
* Calanthar will nod, glancing over to Daern. "If they've murdered Diego, then I will give them no ground. But we have to hope that the boy's alive, for now. I'm going to be sending at least Wiley and Baker down here tonight, if not the others in their squad - and I will *not* be listening to protests otherwise." He'll motion to the free private to step forward, "Dar'tor, run ahead and tell Arktinos that we're moving out. Mister... Daern, let us t
<Calanthar> we're moving out. Mister... Daern, let us take our leave of this place." and he's moving out the door towards the stairs, Nina Dar'tor running ahead of him. Private O'tinkin gives the man a glance and begins moving forwards as well, more hesitant due to the man's injuries.
* Daern looks back to Sadurean with a slight look of betrayal on his face "I knew I was right in suspecting that you were still with the guard. Still, I'm glad I was able to stop the men who were trying to kill you. And I still thank you for giving me the opportunity to set things right and clear my conscience." starting to limp towards the door with the guard at his side <...>
<Daern> <...> Daern will lower his head as he passes Sadurean and not make any attempt at all to struggle on the way to the jail. "to my knowledge Captain, and by my order, no harm had come to the boy.
* Sadurean is a bit uncomfortable, since the other soldiers still look upon him with scorn for his discharge from the Watch. Daern's words are accepted with a nod, "I have reported things accurately.. at least as accurately as I could recall, Daern." The man might appreciate that, depending on how detailed Sadurean really was.
* Calanthar will pause as he reaches the street outside, waiting for Daern before he continues. In short time, Dar'tor returns, accompanied by Corporal Seves Arktinos and his squad. When Daern finally makes it outside, he'll find quite the escort waiting for him; the Captain of the Watch, Corporal Arktinos and his group that has won fame amongst the Watch for their raids, and two other corporals, pulled from their squads for this operation.
<Calanthar> squads for this operation.
<Daern> as the group of men leave the house, Daern looks to the Captain and speaks in a very matter of fact manner "On the record, Captain, I'm sure you're here because of my suspected involvement with a Thieves Guild, which, would be true, and I'll admit to that, however, there was no conspiracy on my part against anything, I joined to ensure that innocent people were not needlessly harmed, <...>
<Daern> <...> and out of a bit of loyalty to the man who took me under his wing when I ended up on the streets with no place to turn. After recent events coming to light, I had every intention of coming to the guard and offering my services as an herbalist as an attempt to atone for my misgivings. <...>
<Daern> <...> I'd already decided that the guild was a very bad idea and had officially turned my back on it last night when I turned on its members to keep them from killing Sadurean and his wife last night."
<Calanthar> "I certainly hope for your sake that this is true, and that it can be proven. If Private Diego is harmed or dead, however, you may have a hard time maintaining your innocence in front of a Tribunal in your role in his abduction, and in leaving him in the hands of murderers..." At the mention of Diego, one of the corporals will jerk his head around and shoot an incensed glare Daern's way before returning to his conversation with his friend, now much
<Calanthar> his conversation with his friend, now much quieter.
<Daern> "if he's harmed or dead, if you give me the chance, I'll find the ones who did it and personally drag them to your doorstep and hand them to you myself, and, gods help me, if Mortimer did it, I'll bring you what's left of him when I'm done"
* Sadurean watches them leave, then makes sure the doors are tightly locked and busies himself with cleaning up the mess. Such a nice home needs to be kept clean, if he has any respect for his dead father.
<Calanthar> "While your... "concern", facade or not, is appreciated, you will be doing no such thing. If you're truly against this "Thieves' Guild" now, then you will give us the information we require so that we may take them apart. We know where you hide, and I will fall upon it like an *avalanche*. If I am too late, if Diego is *dead*, then I would advise everyone involved in this "guild" to start praying to their gods for mercy, because I will only have swi
<Calanthar> for mercy, because I will only have swift and terrible justice for them. For *all* involved in his death."
<Daern> "as far as giving you the information you need to take them apart, I will gladly, however, there is but one request I have of you. Allow me to prove my innocence in the matters of anyone's harm, or the planning of various actions. In my house, which Sadurean was in last night, there is a journal, which I've written everything I've seen and a logbook of all jobs the guild was hired to conduct and what was refused"
<Daern> <...> hired to conduct and what was refused"
<Calanthar> "You will have your chance to prove your innocence before your tribunal. If there is a book, we will find it, but for now, I would *strongly* suggest you find yourself a good lawyer, if you can afford one." It will be a hard-fought case, but Daern should at least have the knowledge that he'll have time; they likely won't try him until after they are certain that the Theives' Guild is either eradicated, or sufficiently weakened to where they can foc
<Calanthar> sufficiently weakened to where they can focus on him.
<Daern> "to be honest Captain, I wish no lawyer, I stand ready to accept whatever punishment is placed upon me, if the sentence is death, I shall accept it, if life in the service of the watch, that also would be accepted. I've made errors, I wish to set them right, it's as simple as that."
* Dekon has joined #Sinari_Town
* Calanthar shrugs. If he were in Daern's place, he would have called in the best damn lawyer money could buy. "Your choice, I suppose. You should probably read up on the law, at least, if you want to have any chance at proving your innocence, or at least escaping the gallows." If Diego's dead, that's probably going to be the punishment, after all... Cal himself would push for it if he was selected for a Tribunal hearing.
<Sadurean> When Sadurean finds the gold, for the briefest moment he considers turning it in to the captain, like he ought to. Then he snickers at his own morality and tucks the money away somewhere safe. That will be the most excellent investment in a new lute. Custom made.. crafted by an expert. Definitely.
<Daern> "that indeed I shall do, I thank you for your advice, I wish that I'd have found someone with your wisdom years ago" having said his peace, Daern continues on to the jail in silence, his head half hung in pain, but, with a newfound sense of pride about him for having finally started down the path to correct his previous wrongs.
* Dekon is now known as Seves
<Seves> Seves rolled his eyes. Having been around these types for five years, he sincerely doubted the man's pleas about reformation were true. Either way, he was amused them. So dramatic. He'd have to make it a point to find out exactly what Daern had done for the thieves guild. Acting like that deserved to be displayed, and possibly receive awards.
<Calanthar> When Daern stops talking, so does Calanthar, instead grabbing a new cigarette and lighting it. It's not much further of a walk, and when at long last they arrive at the barracks, the Captain will turn to Seves. "Corporal, if you would please process our guest? Be careful of that broken arm, and have the necessary files written up for me. As for you, Mister Daern, I'm sure we'll speak again later, but for now there's the matter of organizing an
<Calanthar> now there's the matter of organizing and planning that needs to be addressed. Seves, I'll have to consult with you on that when you're done..."
