* Sachi makes her way into the pub, her heavy boots echoing on the floorboards of an empty tavern as she looks around with her large brown eyes. "You come for company and you get an empty room.. lovely." she mutters to herself, making her way over towards the bar. At the very least she could keep herself occupied with drinking, and the way things had been running around her head lately she could probably use a
<Sachi> couple.
* Sadurean is now known as Rahdrey
* Rahdrey heads into the tavern, an Ourani, complete in uniform and armed with short sword and staff. The mage should have an escort, but he didn't want to hassle with collecting a couple of soldiers. It's a quiet night, so hopefully he won't regret the decision. When he finds the Song nearly empty he'll smile. Good. He had wanted a peaceful drink. The walk was worth the effort.
* Sachi glances over her shoulder looking at the door when it opens and sees and Ourani in uniform. She bristles a little, which is likely a noticeable reaction with her as she was certainly not well skilled in keeping her feelings secret. He made her nervous, considering in her head all she could see anymore was Ourani's killing and burning everything. She'd order her ale, turning her gaze foreward at the emptiness of
<Sachi> the bar.
* Rahdrey smirks, drawing amusement more than anything by the woman's reaction. He crosses to the bar, settling a few seats down from her. The staff is rested against the marble, and he orders a hot cider. Sergeant Orson is twenty-six, with short cropped brown hair and fair skin. His gaze is brown as well (a common coloring trait in Ourani) but his left eye has a paler hue, the pupil almost milky and he likely suffers poor vision on th
<Rahdrey> suffers poor vision on that side, if he has any at all. His face is clean-shaven and he has an air of superiority about him as he casually looks her way, studying her.
* Sachi is tense, and oh she can feel that gaze on her which just made worse. She wondered how long she could sit there like that just pretending that he didn't exist, but eventually decides that the longer she does so the more suspicious it makes her seem. She'd get her ale, taking a long drink before looking over at Rahdrey, giving him a nod in greetings.
<Rahdrey> "Evening." He offers politely. Oh, there's a faint mocking tone there, but Rahdrey really isn't a -bad- man. He just has an attitude of late. "I didn't expect it to be so quiet in here." Who can say why he's trying to strike up conversation. Maybe he had secretly been hoping to run into Adina. She's always good for a debate.
* Sachi would let her brown eyes run over him, assessing him.. though what she was actually going to do with that assessment was a whole other story. She was an awful judge of character. "Yeah.. it gets like that sometimes late at night. I usually pop in for a quick drink after work." she shrugs her shoulders a little, trying to remain casual.
* Roz is now known as Derkin
<Rahdrey> "What do you do?" It's a perfectly normal question. If he wasn't wearing the uniform he could be a normal enough guy. His drink arrives and he drops a couple copper onto the bartop in payment.
<Sachi> "I'm a mechanic." she says, glancing down at her own clothing, thinking the toolbelt would have given her away. Perhaps she was in luck and this particular officer wasn't one of the evil ones who likes to lurk in the shadows.
<Rahdrey> She might have been a plumber, builder.. he has no clue. "That's good work." He comments, her short answers having him thinking maybe he shouldn't have said anything at all. Adina is the only local that he has reasonable conversations with. He sips his drink, not saying much else. It's up to her if she wants to keep speaking with him, now.
* Derkin will walk into the tavern, the cowl of his wool cloak drawn up over his face. He's been in hiding for quite awhile, but with the recent uprising and destruction of the council hall, he's fairly certain its safe for him to reappear in town. One can only spend so much time out in the wastes before he longs for a warm fire and mug of ale. And certainly by now no one is going to remember one measely bar brawl, right?
<Sachi> "Yeah, especially lately." she says, trying not to be overly curt, but on the other hand not trusting herself to not say something she shouldn't. "I prefer working on airships mostly, but I'll take whatever I can get."
<Rahdrey> "Airships? That's specialist work. Impressive. I bet that pays well.." Maybe he will have a normal chat! He actually feels a glimmer of hope. It's not that he doesn't like his countrymen, but sometimes a person wants fresh topics to discuss, outside of the soldiers he sees everyday. He doesn't notice the stranger entering, his blind side.. well.. blind to the rest of the tavern. It's a disability he's still adapting to.
<Rahdrey> adapting to.
<Sachi> "It does when there's work to be done. There isn't always an airship in need of repairs, and when there is the work can be competitive." she says, thanking every god and goddess she's ever heard of that it's a topic she actually knows something about and not something that could get her into trouble. She opens her mouth instinctively to ask about his work and then closes it again, thinking better of that one.
<Sachi> "I own a shop in town and keep a few mechanics working with me, we do good work if you're ever in need."
<Derkin> It takes Derkin a few seconds to realize it, but when he recognizes Rahdrey sitting at the bar, he can't help but smirk. He'll look around to see if there are any guards on duty this time, and take a seat at the bar next to Rahdrey, who seemed to be far to involved with the woman sitting next to him to notice. He'll study the mage intently, watching to see if his arrival is noticed.
* Rahdrey chuckles, shaking his head. "Nah.. I don't have anything mechanical." He can see that she's tense, but he's used to that. Everyone in the city is tense around the fire mages. He doesn't blame them, he would be too if their situations were reversed. Derkin approaches to take a seat nearby, and he hears him rather than sees him. The Ourani turns to see if it's someone he knows.. that man! "You!" With no further warning
<Rahdrey> no further warning he'll grab for his staff and attempt to swing it up at Derkin's skull.
<Sachi> "Wait.. stop!" she had no idea what she was protesting, but it could be anyone sitting over there beside Rahdrey and above all things that she couldn't stand it was violence. In the past she would have just walked away.. ignored it completely, but after the past few days she can't help but to find the whole issue affecting her a little more than usual.
* Derkin was waiting for something like this. He'll move to grab the staff before it can connect fully with his face. "Well well well Sergant Ourani, what's wrong didn't get enough of a beating last time you wanna start another fight?" He'll say with a nasty grin, glaring into the mage's eyes. Something about them didn't look right, but he was a bit distracted by the staff.
* Rahdrey stands and will shove forward, trying to shake Derkin's grip from the weapon. "You made a -bad- decision, treacherous cur!" He isn't going to make the same mistake twice. It's not a defensive spell that he casts, with careful attention to people's saftey. Instead, he speaks swiftly, summoning forth a quick blast of fire that isn't likely to hurt the man much beyond some singing, but hopefully will convince him to back off
<Rahdrey> convince him to back off. It shoots forward from his free hand, the size of an orange.
* Sachi yelps at the ball of fire, ducking and covering her head even though it wasn't coming in her direction. It still scared her half to death. She wasn't used to magic, and even worse she wasn't used to people fightening with magic. "Stop.. please stop.. both of you." she pleads, not wanting to be involved in this what so ever.
* Derkin will jump back, his hair singed. "GAH! You lunatic! I'm not betraying anything. You can't betray invaders if you never served them in the first place." He grabs hold of the barstool behind him.
<Rahdrey> "You tried to kill me! I don't give a damn what you think!" He speaks another line of spidery spell words and another ball of flame materializes, floating above his gloved hand. "Surrender yourself to Ourani justice or I'll burn you to ash." He threatens coldly, calling up a more intricate spell to mind, not expecting Derkin to submit. Poor Sachi.
* Sachi shudders a little. Nothing she was saying was helping in the slightest and now as far as she could figure the best thing she could do would be to move out of the way. The mechanic would head to the opposite side of the room, watching the fight in horror. It was true was Sadurean had said.. that Ourani soldier had just attacked that man for no reason.
<Derkin> "Go ahead. Prove you're a murdering savage by burning someone you lost a bar brawl to," Derkin snarls, suspecting full well that Rahdrey was going to burn him even if he was stupid enough to surrender. He'll heave the chair he'd had a grip on, sending it sailing in at Rahdrey from the mage's left. As soon as the chair leaves his hand, he'll dive off to the side out of what he thinks will be Rahdrey's trajectory.
* Rahdrey sees the man swing the chair at him, but it's on his blind side and he's forced to horribly overcompensate his dodge. The fire spell dissipates when he jumps back out of the way, his concentration too diverted to maintain it. The mage swears and begins casting almost immediately, the words to this spell going on far longer than the last two. Either it's something fancy, or something a lot -worse- than a little ball of fire.
<Rahdrey> little ball of fire.
<Sachi> "STOP!!!!" she yells at the very top of her lungs, trying to draw as much attention from the two of them as possible. "I don't know what you two are fighting about but I'm sure it can be settled peacefully... please... bloodshed makes me nauseous." not to mention the fact that she's already imagining just how horrible seeing someone burned alive would be.
* Derkin swears at himself. Great this idiot mage is gonna burn down half the town just because he's a sore loser. And this poor woman's gonna be the first innocent victim. "Tell that to him! He's the one throwing fireballs around!" And that's when he'll make for the door, hoping that he can make it out the door before Rahdrey's next spell can target him.
<Rahdrey> As it happens, Orson is a good enough mage that a woman screaming in the background doesn't break his concentration. He grips the staff in both hands and points it in Derkin's direction. What everyone expects to happen doesn't. He finishes the spell, his arcane chanting swelling and ending, and absolutely nothing happens. No ball of fire, no gout of flame. Maybe his spell failed?
* Sachi peeks through the fingers of the hands that were currently covering her eyes, peering out between them to try to see if Derkin actually made it to the door. And since she didn't feel or hear any fire it made sense that perhaps her yelling had done some good? She'd watch Rahdrey cautiously, extremely shaken up now.

* Derkin glances back over his shoulder just as he's approaching the door, waiting to see a fireball coming at him. When he sees nothing, he's praying for good luck. Maybe the mage messed it up. Maybe....And that's when his face plants direction into the fruits of Rahdrey's spell. Dazed, he actually rebounds back a few feet before hitting the floor. He's hurt, but not unconscious.

<Rahdrey> An invisible wall of force. It's a spell Rahdrey always keeps on hand because it's proven useful time and again. "You're under arrest. You assaulted an officer of the Ourani army with the intent to murder, and this is your last warning." The mage says in a cold, authoritative tone. He approaches Derkin slowly, staff held tightly in front of him. He dips his free hand into a coat pocket, fingering a small gem, just in case.
<Rahdrey> gem, just in case.
<Sachi> Murder? Did he just say murder? She shudders slightly, finding this whole situation to be getting worse and worse. There was really no where to go, she was so horrified, so frightened that she couldn't move from where she was standing. She just stands there watching, frozen there unable to turn away from what's going on.
* Derkin shakes his head a few times to clear the lingering stars from his vision. Rahdrey's declaration does the rest. Murder? Like hell he was gonna accuse him of that. "Murder?! You tried to arrest me because I wasn't groveling to you Ourani swine and told you exactly what I thought of your invasion of Sinari. Its not my fault you can't handle yourself in a bar brawl." And that's when he gets to his feet and makes to grab for a
<Derkin> another chair
* Rahdrey has no interest in fist-fighting this man again. He pulls out the gem that was in his pocket and hurls it to the ground with one archaic word. It shatters, and black smoke billows up, thick and swirling. The mage backs up, actually putting himself quite a bit closer to Sachi. He whispers a soft phrase of command as the smoke is rapidly burned away by roiling fire, a bulky, vaguely recognizable figure of pure flame rising to f
<Rahdrey> pure flame rising to face Derkin.
* Sachi screams at the sudden appearance of smoke and fire. She startled easily, but then again who could blame her? Before the occupation all she had ever really known was peace in Sinari. As Rahdrey moves closer to her she would move farther away, eventually finding herself pressed up against a corner where she had inadvertently left herself no exit. It was probably a good thing that she wasn't a soldier.
<Derkin> Derkin's eyes go wide. No one ever said anything about these mages summoning Fire Demons. "Holy shit..." And that is when all reason left him. Bar brawls he can handle. Fire beings are another matter. In one rather astounding leap he scrambles over the bar, grabs for what he hopes is water, and tosses it at the Elemental.
* Una has quit IRC (Exit: Why is his head so big? Why is his head so big??)
* Rahdrey really hates to be using this spell. It took hours or preparation and the gem was -damned- expensive. He doesn't have anything better at hand, though. He would never have time to scale down a fireball before Derkin got to him, and if he lets this fool get away a second time he'll get an earful from his commander. The water hits the creature with nothing more than a hiss and a flash of steam. The wood flooring of the tavern is
<Rahdrey> flooring of the tavern is slowly discoloring as the fire-being stands, burning away the woodstain. "You see the strength of Osurak, now?!" He demands, gesturing at the elemental. "Surrender or this creature of flame will hunt you down." Rahdrey is really hoping Derkin yeilds, but he won't entirely regret getting even with the man should he choose otherwise.
<Sachi> "Oh my god..." she mutters to herself, watching that horrible creature there moving menacingly at Derkin. These people were so horrible.. this was so horrible. She didn't even know what to do with herself. Throwing water was a good idea, but that apparently didn't work. She trembles where she stands, terrified that the fire beast was going to set the whole thing to flames.
<Derkin> Oh, poor Derkin. He's afraid, especially when the water fizzles, but he's also very very stupid when frightened out of his gourd. "Your god can shove it! You'd kill me anyway and any other innocents that got in the way of you and your monster!" He grabs a mug and makes to throw it at Rahdrey. It worked when he disrupted him with the barstool earlier, so why wouldn't it now? It must just be a summoning spell or something, a
<Derkin> and it'll go away when Rahdrey stops concentrating, right?
<Rahdrey> Derkin almost has it right, but this spell is rather the opposite of the flame he conjured earlier. The mage has been whispering commands under his breath and when the frightened brawler launches that mug at Rahdrey, those controlling words cease as Orson throws up his arms defensively. The elemental surges forward at Derkin when the invisible leash is released, firey arms reaching to try and grapple him to the floor as it negotiat
<Rahdrey> floor as it negotiates around the bar counter. Sachi likely won't realize it, but Orson has kept himself deliberately -between- her and the confrontation.
* Sachi was far too worried about the flaming thing to realize that the Ourani man was actually protecting her. She gasps as the creature moves towards Derkin. She feels chills running down her spine, sensing already that this wasn't going to end well and that there was absolutely nothing she could do about it.
* Derkin sees the flame creature reach towards him, the heat from the monster searing his hair and his clothes as well. He backs up away from the elemental, scrambling back up against the wall, throwing mugs and bottles at the creature and Rahdrey as fast as he can, all the while chanting a rather colorful mantra of curses. He really is past the point of realizing that he'd probably survive if he just gave up.
* Eva` is now known as Eva`zZ
* Rahdrey might have called it off before it got close enough to truly hurt the man, but Derkin is still throwing things at the mage. Orson has a certain responsibility for his firey creation, and if he gets knocked out there's a good chance it will run freely through the tavern, or worse. He backs up, trying to protect himself from flying crockery. "Fool! Surrender!" The elemental certainly doesn't care about the morality of anyth
<Rahdrey> the morality of anything. It continues towards Derkin, two black pits for eyes that hunger to destroy. Any bottles that don't break upon impact explode as the flames heat the liquid within at an abnormal rate.
* Sachi shrieks at the explosions, the smell of things being burned and touched by that heat. Perhaps it's instinct then that causes her to realize that she still has legs and that they work, or maybe it just took her that long to process everything but she finally decides to flee the Pub. She'd be likely to call for help to anyone along the way that she would think could do any good.
* Sachi yelps at reaching the wall of force, rebounding from it with a thud as she stumbles backwards, even more frightened than before.
<Derkin> "Get away from me! Demon!" And that's when Derkin makes his fatal mistake. In his panic, he hurls a bottle of bourbon at the beast, but by this point it has closed in and when the alcohol breaks open and ignites, it catches onto Derkin as well. The poor man's screams are horrid as he catches fire, and with nowhere to go but forward, he unwittingly charges into the beast, blinded by flames and pain.
<Rahdrey> The agony of poor Derkin is enough for Rahdrey to begin speaking the spell words to dismiss the elemental. He stands up to his full height again and holds his hand out, chanting evenly. It's several long seconds of Derkin's anguished screams before the fire disperses into the air, the figure breaking apart into nothing more than an after-image and smoke. Rahdrey turns then, his gaze falling on Sachi. He steps forward to offer a han
<Rahdrey> forward to offer a hand of assistance. "Sorry, I need to cancel the spell.. just give me a moment." The magic is wearing him out and he needs to recall the right phrasing, since the wall had been the least of his concerns.
<Sachi> "Don't touch me." she gasps out horrified, looking at his hand which had already caused so much damage. She had no intention of touching a weapon like that. Instead her eyes were still staring in horror at Derkin, desperate to just get away from that place, not wanting to spend another moment in there.
* Derkin contines to burn and smolder on the floor. He stops screaming after a certain point.
* Rahdrey sneers down at her, retracting his hand. "Fine." He answers coldly. He speaks the words sharply, waving the staff at the area in front of the doorway. There's no indication that anything has changed, save for a sudden draft as the heat of the room tries to press itself through the closed doors. "Go. Run away." He snaps at her, gesturing at the exit. How he would love to explain himself, to justify his actions.. but it
<Rahdrey> his actions.. but it would fall on deaf ears. It always does, save Adina.
* Sachi looks at him and horror, and perhaps if she was someone else she would have understood, but to her there was the simple fact remaining that he had -burned- someone. She wouldn't stop to think about it.. she would leave, though she wouldn't make it far outside of the doors before she would begin vomiting into the snow, the sound of her retching more than likely audible to the Ourani officer with in. When the
<Sachi> nausea had passed finally she would be gone, looking for anyone who could help that poor soul inside.
* Derkin twitches
* Derkin is now known as Roz
* Rahdrey will check to see if Derkin is still alive, not feeling any better about what happened than Sachi, in term of stomaching it. The smell of burnt flesh is all too familiar and it fills him with a certain amount of self-loathing. He'll flag down the next Ourani patrol he sees to deal with the clean-up.. more than ready to return to the wharf for the night.
