<Adina> The warmth is nice but its a strange sensation conflicting with the precieved heat from the hypothermia, the whole cell suddenly seems sweltering. She knew what he was doing and tried to relax but she only vomitted, hopefully not all over the healer but it would be hard to say, nothing left, bile, blood, she hadn't eaten in so long, she didn't even have stew when she'd --

<Adina> --made dinner. Wheather or not it worked she passed out, her eyes rolling into the back of her head as she set her weight against him, more dead weight than anything, a pulse still evident, her breathing erratic but present. It was hard to say how much strength this would suck from Bryce, but conditions weren't getting better. Was there a smaller heartbeat somewhere?

<Calanthar> "Try being the key word, I'm sure. And you should be proud, too - I mean, they seem to know which way the pointy end of the weapon goes, and that is *far* more than I ever came to expect from the Ourani military, especially it's scaly divisions." He'll return the smirk with his own, digging into his pocket for another cigarette and a match. Really, all he can do now is distract the bastard. "It just goes to show that you lot *did* learn somethi

<Calanthar> to show that you lot *did* learn something over the 40 or so years I saw you. I was about to lose hope. My commendations, soldier."

* Adina has quit IRC (Exit: Here lies Grenval Takk - Eaten by a Sinarian Yeti... Rest in Peace.)

* Bryce doesn't waste anytime when Adina shows signs of worsening. What the hell happened to her? She was fine earlier when he saw her at the infirmary. Well, physically at least. The glow grows brighter, the healer completely oblivious to the others now as all his concentration and focus goes into the magic he's working. Accounting for her and the baby at the same time makes it all far more complicated when he's trying to wrangle a po

<Bryce> trying to wrangle a power he's never fully understood over the last ten years he's had it.

<Sinari> "Would you like a demonstration .. captain?" Is that a challenge, or more pointless banter between enemies. It's unlikely that the jailer will deliberately pick a fight. "They're bold words from a man who's country has done nothing but lose for dec-.. " He looks past Devregon, dark eyes narrowing intently as he realizes something other than a doctor's exam is going on.

<Calanthar> "Oh, I'm not sure you'd be up to it, soldier - if you didn't trip and fall into a bulkhead the moment the ship heaved, you'd likely smack that head of yours into the ceiling. We don't want those brains going to waste, eh?" The nimodo's focus changes, and so Calanthar will make a move of stretching, putting himself in the way. "Maybe someday I'll give you a few lessons as to combat - I probably taught some of your kin, not that they ever came bac

<Calanthar> of your kin, not that they ever came back to talk about it."

<Sinari> The jailer isn't listening now, and he'll spring forward rather suddenly to try and slam his shoulder into the man, planning to knock him off balance so he can get by. The glowing light is certainly not natural, "Stop what you're doing, medic! Stop that now!" He snaps gruffly at Bryce, worried now that he completely misjudged these Watch soldiers and they might be orchestrating some magical rescue.

<Calanthar> Calanthar may be shorter than the guard, but he's no pushover, and fairly surefooted. He'll try to press against the nimodo with all his weight and block him off. "Woah now, scaly! Lose our balance, eh? Seems like you haven't got your sea legs." Shit but he's heavy... Bryce, hurry the hell up! "Woah! Damned ocean!" Calanthar will lash out with a foot, trying to catch the nimodo in the back of the knee, making it look like they both tri

<Calanthar> knee, making it look like they both tripped.

* Bryce can't really hurry this kind of thing. Restoring a person to perfect health in under a minute is damned remarkable enough on it's own. He's sitting still, holding her close, the white light getting brighter as the seconds tick by. He has his eyes closed, all of his concentration still on what he's doing.

<Sinari> The nimodo growls harshly and gives a second shove, firmly planting his feet and stong enough to hold against the trip attempt. "Move aside!" He demands in an authoritative voice, no longer playing around. They're working magic and that's grounds for him to detain them with any means neccessary. "Now!"

<Calanthar> "The Hell I will - you will *not* harm that healer. He's doing his damned job, and I will take any attempts to disrupt the healing process as attempted murder to all parties involved." The push makes Calanthar give a couple steps, but he comes back fairly ready, eyeing the nimodo. This is *not* how he had planned to go out, and arrest was not something he was thinking of. "As a servant of the law, I will not allow you to commit murder by way of

<Calanthar> not allow you to commit murder by way of disrupting this healer's work."

<Sinari> Fancy words that won't change the jailer's opinion right now. He swings a hard backhand towards Devregon's temple, not afraid to resort to more forceful means of moving the man. "Stand aside or I'll cut your throat open, human!" He's impressed that Calanthar hasn't backed down, but if he loses this prisoner Zahr will likely feed him to Osurak's flames.

* Calanthar will duck away from the blow, thankful that he's not *as* tall as the nimodo - his head makes it under the ceiling beam. Turning with the momentum, he'll come back with in a low stance, hand on his sabre's hilt. "Draw your blade, and I will gut you like I've gut every nimodo I've met." The words are spat from his mouth like venom, but he's making no move to retaliate. As far as movement is concerned, he has a minor advantage, and he'd rat

<Calanthar> concerned, he has a minor advantage, and he'd rather not be the first to draw a weapon. "You have assaulted an officer of the Watch, and you are dangerously close to attempted murder. Tread carefully, snake."

<Sinari> The nimodo doesn't need a blade, he has twenty razor sharp claws to work with. The magic is his primary concern, not who he's possibly assaulting. He'll shift his stance to his back foot, making a light but fast slash at Calanthar's chest. The attack is little more than a distraction as he lifts his his other foot to kick at the captain's mid-section. "Stop that magic or Osurak will melt the flesh from your body, mage!" Healer? Perhaps.. but why is Calanthar so fiercely defending him?

<Sinari> body, mage!" Healer? Perhaps.. but why is Calanthar so fiercely defending him?

* Calanthar manages to avoid the first, and he sees the second coming, but sadly, age does take its toll, and he's not able to avoid the whole hit. The chainmail absorbs most of the blow, but the Captain is fairly sure that the massive lizard has cracked a rib. The sabre will slip out now, Calanthar coming into a low defensive stance - as far as he's concerned, that claw attack is sufficient for a deadly weapon. He's trying to hide the fact that he may be

<Calanthar> He's trying to hide the fact that he may be injured with more of the usual growling banter. "Nimodo, you have one last chance. Cease this immediately or find out just how I managed to survive for so many years. I'll give you a hint, it wasn't luck." If he could get to his spear, he'd likely have an advantage, but the narrow corridors that would help him then are hindering him now.

<Sinari> "You have no jurisdiction here, city -guard-." He sees the man reach for the saber and uses that moment to try and dart forward to shove Calanthar back again. His eyes dart over to Bryce, the glow even brighter now. Whatever he's doing, it's clearly working. It's probably sending a beacon out to any that are sensitive to magic in the area as well.

<Calanthar> Oh no. Not this time. This time, Calanthar's settled into a technique. His lead foot will lift and he'll pivot - as the nimodo comes towards him, he'll thrust out with the hilt of the saber in a punch towards the guard's face, hoping to use the two momentums against each other - it's not a killing attempt, interestingly. "You're in Sinari, asshole. My people, my protection, *my* jurisdiction."

<Sinari> Devregon's manuever is clever, and the nimodo takes a hard blow to the face. A man likely would have been stunned with the strike, but the snake-people have tougher hides. He grips one of the bars of the brig with a clawed hand and lifts his leg to kick at Devregon harder, the sharp claws on his feet a very real threat, now.

* Bryce finishes his spell, the bright light fading and leaving the room feeling darker than it was. He pulls Adina closer, sinking his head down to her chest to hear her breathing and heartbeat, both strong and regular now.

<Calanthar> "Shit!" The claw comes up, and Calanthar is just barely able to twist most of his body out of the way - there's a ripping of fabric, however, and blood begins to appear at a cut on his left arm. It's an awkward position, but Calanthar doesn't come back for a slash - instead, he allows his body to keep twisting, dropping him forward as he stabs at the guard's lower leg on the ground, one quick jab, and a turn that puts some distance between them.

<Calanthar> that puts some distance between them.

<Sinari> The nimodo again relies on his tough scaled hide to protect him as the man jabs forward. When Calanthar plunges the sabre at him, instead of dodging back he'll spring forward, willing to take the slash of the weapon against his leg and attempt bowling the captain over. The hallway is small, and if he can tangle the man up in close combat his natural claws will be far superior to the clumsy weapons humans use.

* Bryce breathes slowly, lost in the moment of holding Adina close and relieved that she's better. He feels the dizziness beginning and carefully lifts her down to the floor, tucking the blankets around her in almost a daze. The fighting registers then, the noise of the two attacking each other drawing his attention. The healer quickly pushes to his feet, alarm on his face. "Captain?"

<Calanthar> The distance is just enough to keep from being grappled, but not enough to stop the force - Calanthar is knocked away from the cell door he had been covering, into a wall. To his credit, he recovers well, putting up his sword - if the nimodo wants to try and claw him, he's hoping to spit the lizard. If the guard doesn't lunge immediately at him, Calanthar will begin sidestepping, guard up, trying to move back in between Bryce and the attacker. He

<Calanthar> in between Bryce and the attacker. He's hurt, he's feeling his age, but Calanthar is smiling like a madman. "Now *this* is what I call a good time, soldier." The glow is gone, and Calanthar is hoping that Bryce is moving.

<Sinari> The nimodo doesn't pursue Devregon, but instead springs to the side, into the cell. His powerful muscles lend him considerably strength and speed even with the blood running down his green scales. He gives one powerful shove at the confused healer, sending Bryce stumbling back into the wall of the brig off-balance. "If she's dead.. " He threatens, twisting to look back at Calanthar with a dangerous glare as he places himself between the captain and the blanket-wrapped woman.

<Sinari> he places himself between the captain and the blanket-wrapped woman.

<Calanthar> "Dead? Do your ears not work, lizard?" Calanthar almost laughs at the notion that Bryce would kill Adina. "I wouldn't be surprised if our healer just saved your prisoner's *life*." Calanthar will pull a rag out of his pocket, wiping the blood off of his sabre before sheathing it, then pressing it against his cut arm. "Been a while since I've felt lizard claws..."

* Bryce hits the wall hard, but wood is forgiving and he's wearing a lot of bulk since he was on patrol. "She is okay.." He says, accent heavier as his brain struggles to concentrate through another wave of dizziness. He's very pale, and doesn't move from the wall, using it to support him as he begins breathing heavier and his eyes close.

<Sinari> "Shut up!" The nimodo snaps, leaning down to check Adina himself, though he glances up frequently to eye the captain. He put the sabre away, but it can be drawn again easily enough. The jailer notes that she's looking much better than she did, and some of his worry eases. Mendrick won't be making an example of him in the morning..

* Calanthar will shrug, tending to his arm. It's a strange feeling - almost like he's young again, but then the pain comes back, and the reminder that he's not as fast as he used to be. Technique is all he really has to rely on now. He'll move over to Bryce and lean next to him, offering him a cigarette. "Good job, son. You did good."

<Sinari> The nimodo rises, glaring at both of them. Then he strides out of the cell and slams the door closed. "I'll take the key now, or you'll be cut to pieces before you ever step on the dock." There's no fun and games now, he's willing to call an alarm on the entire ship if these two try anything.

* Bryce opens his eyes, sharply shaking his head at the offer of the cigarette. He presses a hand to his stomach, clenching his teeth as he sinks down to sit on the floor, a sharp stabbing pain in his guts as the backlash of the magic begins setting in.

* Calanthar reaches into his pocket and fishes the key out, pausing only to light a cigarette before holding it out to the nimodo. "Some day, we will have to... 'chat' again." He's nuts. The Captain has gone *completely* crazy. He'll move back over to Bryce and will move to heft him up and support him. One of the perks about being rather large, perhaps.

<Sinari> "Gladly." The Ourani soldier growls, taking the key and twisting it in the lock. He pulls at the door, ensuring himself that it's secure. He walks away, footsteps soft as most nimodo don't wear boots. He climbs the stairs and disappears for the time being.

* Bryce isn't all that heavy, he's fairly skinny under all the bulky clothes, pushing a hundred and forty pounds at best. He speaks through gritted teeth, still in pain, though there isn't a mark on him, "I will be fine. What happened?" He asks, still confused as to how a fight broke out. He presses a hand against the wall and manages to stay standing with Calanthar's help.

<Calanthar> "Nothing to concern yourself with. Come on, boy. You may still walk away if you go now." Calanthar will move forwards, guiding Bryce along towards the door. What will come will come, and Calanthar will answer for it if need be. For now, his concern lies with his subordinate. "You did good, son. You did real good. Just a little trouble with the guard." Shit... I feel so old about now...

<Bryce> The magic is a tremendous drain on him, and after a rather stressful day he isn't at his most resilient. He's leaning heavily on the captain as the man guides him, his gaze straying to the wound on the man's arm. "You bleed.." He points out, reaching to grip the door to try and push it open. Of course, the nimodo had locked it, so they're all trapped.

<Calanthar> "I bleed." Calanthar laughs even as he says it. He knows what Bryce meant by the statement, but for some reason, it strikes a deeper chord. "Yes, I bleed. I've bled for years for a whole bunch of reasons, and now I bleed for something so... Haha... I bled because you were healing." The door doesn't give, but what did they expect? Calanthar will lean against the wall, drawing heavily on the cigarette. "What a reason to be arrested."

<Calanthar> "What a reason to be arrested."

* Bryce holds onto the bars for support, pulling away from Calanthar. His face has an unhealthy palor to it, but the healer hardly seems alarmed by his condition. He's used to it. He knows the cost. "I am sahrry." His apology is soft, but genuine. Bryce feels responsible for this. He went to the captain for help and now they're both in the brig with Adina. "I will think of sahmthing to tell them.. so they know it is my fault. The

<Bryce> it is my fault. They will not kill me when they know what I can do." That's just a simple truth he's learned. Friends and enemies alike, no one ever tries to kill the healer.. other than Lason.

<Calanthar> "Larose, I don't think you've committed a crime here... There's a chance you may walk away. I *stabbed* a nimodo soldier. Got in a good smash to his jaw with my sword, too. Heh... I don't know that there's a way to talk out of this one, boy." The cigarette helps, but tonight's the first time Calanthar's gotten into a fight in a long time, and he's worried about how it went. "I'm old. I really *can't* fight anymore."

* Bryce stares at the man quietly, letting his words sink in. "Thank you.." Is his simple reply. Seeing to Adina's safety was vital to the healer, and now that she's no longer in immediate danger he'll allow himself to relax. He moves over to her, sinking down to sit. His movements are slow and careful, as a sick person might move about that hasn't eaten in a few days. The drain the magic has on him has rather harsh repercussions,

<Bryce> harsh repercussions, but usually they don't last for more than a few hours. Not a terrible trade-off, given the results.
